Informal meeting of Water and Marine Directors

• The informal “Meeting of Water and Marine Directors” will be held between 25-27th May 2011 in Budapest by the invitation of the Hungarian EU Presidency. At the meeting high level governmental representatives responsible for water related policy will attend.

• For supporting the implementation of the 2000/60/EC Water Framework Directive a Common Implementation Strategy (CIS) framework was established in 2001, under the supervision of the so called „Water Directors” who are responsible for the co-ordination of water related issues in their member states work together with EU DG ENV.
  The main objective of the CIS is to ensure the common approach of the implementation of the directive, elaboration of  common technical guidance documents, operate joint expert groups and research works and projects. The Water Directors meet each other under every presidency to assess the new achievements of the CIS activities and to discuss the main issues related to waters.
  In 2009 a similar expert and co-operation network was created supporting the implementation of 2008/58/EC Marine Strategy Framework Directive, heading by the „Marine Directors”.
  The two meetings will be held back-to-back in Budapest.
