Ministers will follow up the European Council conclusions of 11 March (EUCO 7/11) and 24-25 March (EUCO 10/11, pt 18-26) and the Council conclusions of 11-12 April 2011 (8909/11). They will also discuss a related communication to be presented by the Commission. The state of play as regards the proposal for modifications to the 2004 regulation that established the European agency for the management of operational cooperation at the external borders of the EU member states (FRONTEX) will also be reviewed at a meeting of the Mixed Committee in the margins of the Council.
Ministers will be briefed by the presidency on a meeting of EU and US interior and justice ministers held in Budapest/Gödöllö on 13-14 April and focused on the fight against cybercrime.
Furthermore, against the backdrop of events in Japan, the Council will exchange views on the possible introduction of nuclear incidents in the priority reference scenarios developed in the framework of the EU civil protection mechanism, in order to determine the means and abilities member states can contribute in a nuclear emergency.
The proposal for a regulation establishing an agency for operational management of large-scale IT systems in the area of freedom, security and justice (11722/09) is also expected to be discussed.
The presidency will hold a briefing in the Council press room a few days before the meeting.
