Member State Economy and Finance Ministers are meeting for the first time under the Hungarian Presidency. The Presidency presents a work programme on economic and financial matters for the duration of its term of office (public debate). The participants will review the measures taken since the European Council’s December 2010 session and the work of the ad hoc working group which was created in November 2010 to prepare six draft legislations for the reinforcement of economic governance. It is a priority for the Hungarian Presidency that the package be adopted as soon as possible. The agenda also includes the approval of the Commission Communication about the excess deficit procedure against Malta, the discussion of the experience of the introduction of the euro in Estonia, and the presentation of the Annual Growth Survey published by the Commission on 12 January 2011, starting the European Semester. At the Council meeting the ministers will also discuss certain financial and tax matters related to the Single Market Act.
